A tribute to the Chinese zodiac in the Year of the Horse

After the dragon and the snake, the horse now reigns supreme in the Chinese year. Caran d’Ache continues to honor Chinese culture with a new writing instrument that embodies the spirituality and aesthetics of a civilization rich in symbolism.

According to legend, at one Chinese New year the Emperor of Jade summoned all the animals in creation to his palace, promising them a valuable gift. Only 12 answered the mysterious invitation and the Emperor awarded each of them a year of the Zodiac in the order of their arrival. The Year of the Horse is now the latest Caran d’Ache creation: a writing instrument with a pure-bred character that shows its personality in the refinement of its details.

A heavenly, bold creation in the image of the animal itself

The horse imposes its independent, fearless fiery temperament on Chinese symbolism. Its freedom conquers wide open spaces with energy and determination. The strength of its personality is clearly expressed in this new limited edition that subtly illustrates the manufacturing expertise of the Geneva company.

The horse impetuously bestrides the body in black Chinese lacquer. Its sheer majesty is highlighted by the delicate engraving of its shape coated in ivory lacquer. The colour contrast is striking. With its mane flowing in the wind, its powerful rump tensed to leap forward, the horse comes to life on the instrument. Its vibrant spirit and stunning presence make this artistic object a captivating blend of culture and allegory.

Each instrument carries its own number on the tip of the cap and is presented in its own lacquered wooden box that is decorated with the Chinese Character.
The Limited Edition is marked with a Chinese seal indicating "Chinese Lacquer" and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity for this exquisitely refined material.

Every writing instrument is authenticated by the calligraphic sign of the goat and by the Chinese seal of the Maison Caran d’Ache, applied in red, the bearer of good fortune.

The “Year of the Horse” edition is limited to 888 rollerball pens in homage to Chinese culture, in which the number “888” is the ultimate sign of good luck.
