According to legend, on one particular New Year, the Emperor of Jade summoned all the animals in creation to a mysterious meeting, promising them a special reward. Only 12 animals responded to the invitation. The Emperor then gave each of the twelve a year of their own, numbered in the order of their arrival, and that year would carry their name forever. The fifth sign is the Dragon, the only mythological animal to be included in the Chinese zodiac.

2012 will be the year of the Dragon, the legendary founder of Chinese civilization, guardian of the elements across the successive dynasties, and symbol of perseverance and success. To celebrate this year and confirm its admiration for Chinese culture, Caran d’Ache, Maison de Haute Ecriture, has created a new, prestigious writing instrument with a powerful character and full of positive virtues.

The five-fingered Dragon is one of the founding myths of Chinese civilization:the messenger of the Gods,the guide for human beings and the master of the elements. All its magical powers are wonderfully evoked in the “Year of the Dragon” Limited Edition. Its design focuses all the expertise and excellence of Caran d'Ache on creating a genuine tribute to Asian refinement.

The body of the pen, carefully polished by hand then enveloped in soft black lacquer, is surrounded by the sinuous form of the powerful red dragon.As guardian of all the Earth's riches, it seizes possession of this Limited Edition, gripping the body with the full force of its five fingers, never to part from it and to protect it with eternal goodwill.

The Dragon motif appears five times on the writing block engraved by laser to enrich the pen with subtle glimmers of light.

Every writing instrument is authenticated by a calligraphic symbol of the Dragon and by the Chinese seal of the Maison Caran d'Ache applied in red, as a good luck charm.

The “Year of the Dragon” edition is limited to 888 fountain pens in homage to Chinese culture, in which the number “888” is the ultimate sign of good luck.
