Caran d'Ache Secret Journey III Tolstoy Fountain Pen
Limited Edition of 300

For its final secret, the Maison de Haute Ecriture honors a great Russian writer of the 20th century, Leo Tolstoy, and takes us to Montreux and the magic of those mysterious mountains which so inspired him.

This last edition of the Trilogy links yellow gold and white lacquer in perfect harmony, suggesting the vast snowfields of the Russian winter. On the body of the writing instruments, a delicate decoration symbolizes the banks of the Léman.  A secret mechanism, activated by hand, removes the Côte de Genève so well known in the world of watchmaking and reveals the author’s words: "The beauty of this landscape dazzled me and gave me unexpected strength." As a final tribute, a sapphire marks the position of Montreux.  So many symbols say a great deal about this important philosopher.
These Limited Editions are steeped in mystery inviting us to explore the Swiss countryside and discover the treasure hidden in the beauty of the mountains and lake shores.

Secret Journey III: Tolstoy: 20th century
"The beauty of this landscape dazzled me and gave me unexpected strength."

The “Secret Journey III” writing instruments are entirely produced in the company’s Geneva workshops.

Available in 300 fountain pens, each writing instrument is individually numbered on the ring which also carries the hallmark of Caran d’Ache’s master craftsman.

Created in noble materials, they are supreme examples of the company’s expertise. The white lacquer envelops the body and the cap with a brilliance that makes an elegant contrast with the finishing in yellow gold plate depicting the countryside around the lake. Subtly engraved on the surface and in depth they show details of the plains, rivers and famous mountain scenery in the region of Montreux.

Embellished with a 0.06-carat sapphire symbolically positioned on the city of Montreux, the pen’s body also conceals the phrase spoken by Tolstoy. When the secret mechanism is not activated the French quotation is hidden under a magnificent engraving, made famous by the world of watchmaking: la Côte de Genève.

The body of the fountain pen is plated in yellow gold and personalized with a guillochage. This decoration is repeated on the fountain pen’s piston pump which is also gold-plated and crowned with a sapphire. The pen can alternatively be used with Caran d’Ache ink cartridges.

The pen nibs in 18-carat yellow gold are designed in perfect harmony with the writing instruments, delicately engraved with the points of the compass. They are available in 3 widths: Fine, Medium and Large.

The instruments are presented in a sumptuous black lacquer case decorated with a map of the lake region around the town of Montreux. The fountain pen box holds a superb ink bottle in solid glass with a cap in yellow gold plate engraved with the Caran d’Ache monogram.  The ink it contains is Blue Night, one of the Colors of the Earth Collection created by Caran d’Ache and specially chosen for this marvelous Limited Edition.
