The “Oberalp” limited edition pays tribute to the Alpine spirit which is inseparable from Swiss identity. This is part of the aesthetic continuity of the limited editions devoted to “La Poya” and “La Rindyà”, reviving the attachment of the creators of the Maison Caran d’Ache to the Alpine universe. Living with the mountains, getting to know them, admiring them, preserving their natural environment and the customs of their inhabitants are values that are deeply rooted in Swiss culture.
The Oberalp pass, located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, is a major communication route between north and south through the Gothard mountains. Their rocky peaks attracted fans of Alpine landscapes, resulting in the mountain trips undertaken in the 19th century by the famous founder of climbing, Geneva scientist, Horace-Bénédict de Saussure.
Delicate engraving
The designers of the Maison Caran d’Ache have transcribed their love of the bucolic world of the mountains with its green pastures into three exceptional writing instruments: the “Oberalp” fountain pens, roller pens and ballpoint pens.
A figurative frieze representing an idyllic Alpine landscape extends over three sides of the body of the pen. This is reminiscent of traditional Alpine paper-cutting and is created using delicate engraving and black lacquer. The other three sides celebrate the beauty of edelweiss, the “stars of the snow” that have become symbolic of Switzerland and the Alpine spirit.
