Uniquely, Tibaldi for Bentley is a family of finely crafted pens that has sought, above all, to embody the values of both partners. To address the spirit of Bentley, every Tibaldi for Bentley writing instrument adopts the functional and aesthetic details found in every Bentley cabin, metamorphosing them into the components of a pen. To ensure that the design purity is respected, Tibaldi's artisans worked closely with Bentley's Head of Interior Design, Robin Page and Designer Jonathan Punter, to produce a pen that possesses the character of the Azure.

Tibaldi for Bentley Azure pens reflect the stunning bespoke interior of the car in the materials and burnishes of these exceptional writing instruments, which boast leather barrels lined with genuine Bentley hides (available in: Beluga, Burnt Oak, Hotspur and Imperial Blue for the silver pens, Beluga and Cognac for the gold ones).

The Tibaldi for Bentley Azure pen collection consists of fountain pens and roller balls, available as a limited edition of 500 pieces per model in sterling silver and 50 pieces per model in the solid 18k rose gold.

Tibaldi Virtues, Bentley Style

Translating the ethos of a motorcar into a writing instrument requires an understanding of the way a pen is observed, appreciated, and employed. Form affects function: in the way that a car must communicate with the driver, a pen must feel "right" in the hand, to encourage the smoothest penmanship. In this respect alone, Bentley and Tibaldi have much in common, as both address without compromise the needs of the operator.

From Cap to Nib

To accomplish this union in the Tibaldi for Bentley Azure Limited Edition Pen Collection, Jonathon Punter was inspired by the Azure's tactile surfaces. Tibaldi adapted Bentley's signature knurling to provide the finishes of the clip ring, section ring and, barrel end. A Bentley provides comfort, even in full flight with spirited flight being the tenor of the motion. Reflecting this is a hand-stitched leather sleeve that forms the surface of the pen barrel.

Tibaldi for Bentley's Azure Pen Collection employs a new shape, masculine and solid like the car itself. It fits the hand with precisely the same authority as the Azure's gearlever or steering wheel. The cap of the Azure pen is slightly convex, bearing a Bentley "B" and shaped to remind the user of the starter button on the Bentley's dashboard. The remaining surface of the cap is smooth metal, the most evocative material in a Bentley's cabin.

As found in other Tibaldi writing instruments, the pens clip -newly-designed by Robin Page and Jonathan Punter - is spring-loaded, with a roller at its end. Initially, this was developed by Tibaldi to ensure smooth ingress and egress into a pocket, moving with the fluidity of a switch on a Bentley control panel. But it serves a second, less obvious function: its spring-loading guarantees that the clip will not suffer damage when asked to embrace a fabric thicker than that of a fine shirt.

Ensuring that the Tibaldi for Bentley Azure reassures its owner of its Bentley-like mien, the leather covering the barrel is supplied by Bentley from the same source as the hides used to upholster the Azures interior. Its cross-stitching follows Bentley's own patterns, accomplished by hand in the Tibaldi atelier.

Rubber to Road, Nib to Paper

As with the predecessors in the Tibaldi for Bentley family, the Azure fountain pen is finished in either a two-tone 18k solid gold nib, a rhodium and ruthenium nib(for the sterling silver version) or rose gold and ruthenium (for the rose gold version).

Tibaldi Nibs

Like the original TIBALDI nibs from the early 1900s, each one is engraved with the guarantee of first class writing instruments "1a Qualità" , alongside the Bentley logo. Tibaldi Bentley Azure Beluga Leather Silver Fountain Pens are available with a wide choice of nib grades that suit any writing need - fine (F), medium (M), broad (B), double broad (BB), oblique medium (OM), oblique broad (OB) and stub nibs.

Precious Casing

A pen finely-crafted as the Azure, deserves an appropriate housing, much as a Bentley would reside in a suitable garage. Continuing the design ethos of the Azure even to its presentation case, the box is made from wood and leather; the latter selected to match the hide which covers the pen itself.

Rarity Value

Despite the unparalleled success of Bentley, seeing one on the road is still an event. The simple reason is that Bentley will never be able to satisfy demand, and the vehicles are best described as "uncommon". Tibaldi for Bentley writing instruments, too, are limited editions, the Azure collection continuing this tradition. But there is another Bentley service, exemplified by their coach-builders, Mulliner, which has been emulated in the Tibaldi for Bentley Azure pens: the fortunate owner can specify the leathers used to cover the barrel.

All Tibaldi for Bentley Azure writing instruments are numbered. The collection will include:

• Solid Silver - 500 fountain pens and 500 roller balls. The client is able to choose his or her preferred type of leather: Imperial Blue, Burnt Oak, Hot Spur, and Beluga.
  
• Solid 18k Rose Gold - 50 fountain pens and 50 roller balls. The client may choose either Cognac or Beluga leather.
