In line with previous creations, it is the product of passionate research into the newest materials. After ceramics, chain mail and, most recently, rubber, Caran d’Ache engineers have mastered silicon. Apart from its numerous physical properties, this metalloid has a particular quality that adds a strong spirit of design to an object. It produces shimmering geometrical reflections that vary from grey to blue, depending on the brightness of the light. The mirror effect is fascinating since it changes constantly as the light plays on it.

The Varius Silas is manufactured in the Geneva workshops of Caran d’Ache. It is offered in four numbered versions – fountain pen, roller pen, ballpoint and mechanical pencil – produced in silicon and stainless steel.
