Varius Metrub Silver Plated Rhodium Coated Pens by Caran D'Ache

The new Metrub writing instruments from Caran d'Ache fit easily into the hand and take the most challenging curves like a champion. A thrilling combination of metal and rubber, the fountain pen, roller pen, ballpoint and mechanical pencil of the Varius Collection from the renowned Swiss manufacturer is a young, spirited version of the exclusive "Swiss made" writing instruments. The barrel is clad with a hexagonal rubber jacket. The smooth, velvety grip provided by the high-quality rubber makes writing with a Metrub a real treat. The two double bands that mark the rubber-metal interfaces are silver plated and rhodium-coated, as are the caps of the fountain pen and rollerball, as well as the hexagonal points and ends of all four pens. Rhodium is a non-oxidizing noble metal, more expensive than gold. Its great hardness keeps the metal parts from scratching and scuffing.

The inbuilt virtues of the Collection Metrub satisfy all today's requirements on engineering and ease of use. Ink flow starts up as soon as you put pen to paper, thanks to an improved capillary system. The rhodium-coated 18kt gold nib is available in three nib-widths â€“ F, M and B. The fountain pen can be used with an ink pump or cartridges as desired. The rollerball pen works with ink roller cartridges. The ballpoint pen features the celebrated Goliath giant cartridge, providing up to 600 A4 pages of smudge free writing. The mechanical pencil with pushbutton lead advance is designed for 0.7mm leads.

The natural rubber used for the barrels of Collection Metrub instruments has been refined with a special treatment, making it soft yet resilient to the touch while providing protection against cracking and other ageing effects. The rubber is formed round a very hard, thin-walled metal alloy core to ensure the necessary consistency. The rubber and metal, two materials that are normally very difficult to join, are firmly bonded by a layer of high-grade adhesive. The points and ends of the instruments are screwed onto the metal core, which extends beyond the rubber jacket and is threaded at both ends.

The pens are delivered in a Maplewood gift box case.

Fountain Pen: 18 carat gold nib : EF, F, M, B, OM, OB. Ink pump or cartridges.

Rollerball Pen: Roller or fibre-tipped cartridge.

Ballpoint Pen: Push button mechanism. "Goliath" cartridge.

Mechanical Pencil: Push button mechanism. 0.7 mm leads. Eraser under push button.
