Varius Ivanhoe Gold Plated Pens by Caran D'Ache

Poets in romantic mood will find inspiration for their love lyrics in the new Ivanhoe writing instruments from Caran d'Ache. Named for the hero of Sir Walter Scott's stirring novel, these latest additions to the famed Swiss manufacturer's "Varius" Special Materials collection are redolent of the Middle Ages with its chivalry and minstrel songs. Like the knights of old, the pens of the Ivanhoe Collection are clad in shining armor. The round middle part of the silver plated brass body is in a jacket, a "coat of mail" of woven stainless steel. Two rhodium-coated double bands mark the upper and lower ends of the jacket.

All other pen parts are made of silver plated brass with a rhodium finish. The typical Caran d'Ache retro steel clip â€“ also silver plated and rhodium-coated â€“ goes perfectly with the pens' medieval outfit. However, beneath this nostalgic exterior beats a heart of modern precision engineering, designed for maximum reliability and writing comfort.

The fountain-pen nib, made of rhodium-coated 18 ct gold, is available with six nib-widths: EF, F, M, B, OM, and OB. Depending on the writer's preference, the roller can be fitted with a rollerball or a fiber-tipped cartridge. Both the fountain pen and the roller pen have an ergonomic metal writing grip. The ballpoint pen is equipped with an easy-action mechanism, responding to a simple touch of the button and, of course, with the famous Caran d'Ache Goliath giant cartridge, ensuring up to 600 A4 pages of smudge free writing. The mechanical pencil is designed for 0.7mm leads. The pushbutton conceals a reversible eraser.

Rhodium, an extremely hard metal of the platinum family, is very rare and almost ten times as expensive as gold. Its greatest asset is, however, that it does not oxidize and will always keep its brilliant silvery sheen.

The pens of the Ivanhoe collection are gift-boxed in a handsome Maplewood case.

Fountain Pen: 18 carat gold nib : EF, F, M, B, OM, OB. Ink pump or cartridges.

Rollerball Pen: Roller or fibre-tipped cartridge.

Ballpoint Pen: Push button mechanism. "Goliath" cartridge.

Mechanical Pencil: Push button mechanism. 0.7 mm leads. Eraser under push button.
