Description
The Congress of the World
As two transparent pages form a secret image when placed one on top of the other, so the space in time and the juxtaposition of a long tale by Jorge Luis Borges with images of ancient Indian Tantric art in this book create a fabric of echoes, a luminous tangle of problems and puzzles. Its theme is the world; a theme so vast that it has never ceased to occupy and even to daunt the human mind. Tantric artists heightened this theme with the detailed and enchanting pages that are published here. Perhaps they were terrified by the idea that the world was one alone, like a prison cell, and so they imagined one hundred and eighteen. In Il Congresso del Mondo (The Congress of the World), Borges poses the opposite problem: how to reduce a world that is already too numerous and how, through that reduction, to represent it.
