Spoleto - silk Crowned by its castle, Spoleto stands on a wooded rise at the edge ofthe Umbrian plain. It played an important part in Italian history over the centuries, and still has a rich historical heritage to prove it, as well as an artistic treasure, in the form of Filippo Lippi´s frescoes in the cathedral. Situated near the haunting Fonti del Clitumno, Spoleto has played host to the Festival dei Due Mondi since its foundation by Gian Carlo Menotti (1957).
