Roma, Domus Aurea - silk The lavish palace of the emperor Nero, the Domus Aurea was built and destroyed within the space of a few years, then remained buried for centuries. Rediscovered at the end of the 15th century, it yielded up an unknown pictorial universe to the admiring eyes of artists and scholars. Copied and imaginatively completed, its ancient frescoes live again in the engraved and coloured plates of a stupendous 18th-century album.
