Description
I Vangeli (primo volume)
In the area around Coira there is a little village, Zillis, no different from thousands of other little towns and villages of the Helvetic Confederation. But Zillis has a treasure: the wooden ceiling of the little church of Saint-Martin, one of the oldest collections of religious paintings in Europe. There are 153 panels in which an anonymous Romanesque master has recreated episodes from the Gospels with an incomparable air of poetic and pictorial humours. The representation is extremely simple. It makes the viewer think of a “film” or “photo love story” dedicated to the simple farmers and shepherds of Zillis, soon after the year one thousand, but the theological interpretation, symbology and semantics of the cycle are linked to the highest cultural traditions of the Middle Ages.

I Vangeli (primo volume)
