Fermo - silk Perched on a hill overlooking two valleys in the Marches, safe from the unwelcome attentions of enemies and pirates, seen from the sea Fermo appears to be an almost inaccessible pyramid of roofs and walls. The close-knit medieval network of its streets, lined with churches and noble dwellings which are also treasure troves of art, has remained virtually intact.
