Description
Amalfi - silk
Physically the "sunniest" of the seafaring republics, Amalfi was founded in calamitous times as a refuge from the invaders of the north. Its fleet was a bulwark against the Saracens, but also a means of lucrative trade with those same infidels. Indeed, it was the trade in precious goods from the East which caused the city to be "full of silver, gold and elaborate clothing": an architectural jewel set in a magical coastline.
